Green Screen Keying
Importing into Premiere Pro and using Ultrakey to remove the green sceen. Other methods were used to achieve the best effect.

Green Screen Set-up
Finding a suitable greenscreen to use for some physical money ideas towards my main project. Creating the optimal set-up to make keying easier.

Main Learning Objectives
Adobe Premiere Pro

Trial & Error
Trial and error was a big part of lots of the techs I was using and learning about.
This involves experimenting with different features and seeing what happens. It is a great way to find out new things as well as remember what you are learning.

Youtube Tutorials
YouTube has always been my preferred method of learning skills for Premiere Pro. It is free and gives the widest variety of tutorials/demos to choose from.

Online Research
As this also involved a purchase, it was important to conduct online research on both Amazon and Google searches.

Learning Strategy
Set-up
The aim when setting up the green screen is to get it as tight as possible with minimal creases.
It also needs a powerful light shining on it to make the surface as bright and even as possible, as well as separate it from the subject.

Choice
I needed to find a green screen that could fold to a small size, but still be a consistent colour keep flat. I ended up choosing a green sheet option as it was cheapest and had some good reviews.

Filming
I filmed this using my Sony A7II so that I had the most manipulation of the colours and could manually adjust the settings. (A quicker shutter speed would reduce motion blur and make it easier to key out in post)

My Learning Journey
Getting a Green Screen
1.
Aim: Make a suitable green screen set-up for my bedroom
Learning Method: Youtube & Google research
Goal Achieved?
Yes. Overall I had created a green screen set-up. However with more professional equipment, I could have ended with a better set-up that required less work.
Final Results
This was a good first start at setting up a green screen. It was useful as I had a lot of the necessary filming components and knowledge which helped speed things up. It was however hard to remove all the creases and create enough light with a higher shutter speed being used.

Key Insights/findings
-
Using a green screen frame would make this a lot easier to get a clean result
-
Higher shutter speed helps make a cleaner green screen effect in post
-
More lights the better
-
Shadows are an issue - as we were placing items down on the green screen, they always made a shadow, which is much harder to key out in the next step
Adding Ultra Key
Once colour corrected, I could add the Ultra Key effect to the footage and select the green background colour to key out.
The footage could then be put on top of anything else and the background would be transparent.

Colour Adjustment
After a few worse attempts, one tutorial showed away of boosting the greens and making a flatter looking green screen. This involved using HSL secondary in the Lumetri Colour panel, picking the green colours on the screen, and moving the shadows, midtones and highlights closer to green.

Aim: Create a physical money animation for my main project using Ultra Key

Goal Achieved?
Partly. I managed to create the green screen effect and create a draft concept with it. However, it is not as good as I had hoped due to the shadows and bad lighting conditions I had.
In the future, I would need a piece of glass raised above the green screen to reduce any shadows, and make a much more professional look.
Final Results
I put the final footage on top of a screen recording with someone making an Amazon purchase. The idea is to make consumers feel more emotionally attached to money when shopping online by going back to the old way of paying. This is in the hope to reduce consumer spending habits.

Key Insights/findings
-
Using colour correction to improve the greenscreen in post if it is not up to scratch to begin with
-
It is harder than initially thought. A more polished set-up will be required to achieve the desired looks
-
Putting more time into the shot will make it a lot easier in post
